There was a thin, elderly man at the Lake Gardens the other day and he was selling some fruits. Don't expect any common fruits like pineapples or papayas and don't expect a big amount or a variety of fruits either. The man just had a few bags, only five of some weird looking fruits. The fruits had thick shells and had to be cracked open by banging them on the table. The white pulp inside reminded of longan and like the latter, had a big black eye-like seed. It must be a matoa, a fruit said to resemble the longan; just that a matoa is slightly larger, less watery and has a thicker shell. The fruit is sweet too but said to have the three in one taste of a durian, lychee and rambutan.
A matoa can be cracked open like an egg by banging it on something hard. Other fruits however need to be open in a different way. Just watch this!
