Animal Take: Dropping by for Chinese New Year

It has always been the practice during Chinese New Year that relatives and friends visit each other to wish each other a happy new year in what is termed 拜年 bài nián by the Chinese. Visits can be made anytime during the 15 day period when Chinese New Year is celebrated but the first day is normally reserved for the immediate family; for the parents at home who probably are the most senior members of the family, a visit to them if they are staying in their own home. That would be followed by visits to other relatives on the second day especially the in-laws and visits to more relatives, friends and acquaintances on the days that follow.
