Song Talk: Everything I Own

Thuan Hee forwarded a song Everything I Own written by David Gates of Bread. The song in the 70s reached No. 5 on the American Billboard Hot 100. Covers of the songs probably did better; Jamaican artist Ken Boothe's reggae version reached No. 1 in the UK Singles chart and Boy George's version was No. 1 in the charts in the UK, Canada, Ireland and Norway. The lyrics of the song seems to suggest that it is about the love and broken relationship between a man and a woman but David Gates had intended it to be in memory of his father with whom he had a broken relationship. It's rather sad to read the he failed to patch things up before he achieved fame. Reflect on this on Father's Day. Happy Father's Day!
