Auld Lang Syne, needless to say is a popular song and I don't think, just in the English- speaking world. The song has been translated into Chinese, Malay and I suppose many other languages too and like the English version, is sung or played to bid farewell to the old year and at funerals, graduations and many other occasions when people need to bid goodbye to each other. While I have heard the song since school days, I just recalled that our teacher didn't explain what Auld Lang Syne meant. Then, of course the teacher might not know. Afterall, it was said that the song was originally a Scottish poem which had been set to music.
