Since guava has been touted a common tropical fruit, it is not surprising then to find it growing well in hot and humid Malaysia. That the fruit originated from Mexico or places somewhere near there like Central America or northern South America and throughout the Caribbean region shouldn't come as a surprise. Many fruits and plants in Malaysia do come from elsewhere. The Mimosa pudica is a fine example. Years ago, back in the village; there was a guava plant in the backyard that grew big into a tree. The present plant in the garden grows in a pot and it is flowering!
