Long have I heard of the plant selasih but it is only now that I learn that it is called Thai basil; or, am I mistaken? Anyway, about basil, I've read that it could be native to India.Thai basil used in the cuisines of Southeast Asia is a different variety altogether. The latter is found all over Southeast Asia, it being a native to the region. Now it surprises me and makes me wonder why it is identified as Thai...is it featured more prominently in Thai cuisine than let's say, the cuisine of Vietnam, Cambodia or Laos or Malaysia?
