One probably would be surprised that the popular plant pokok garuda is originally a European plant. The plant with bluish leaves has a strong smell and unsurprisingly is also called pokok busuk by some; busuk being a Malay word for smelly. Probably, the smell puts off insects and to some extent, spirits. The plant known to the world as rue has been known to be used as insect repellent and some locals believe it wards off ghosts.
