What plants have parts that are thickened, fleshy, and engorged? Succulents! Most of them are said to come from dry areas such as steppes, semi-desert, and desert; and the thickened, fleshy, and engorged parts function to retain water. A relative had a shelf just for her succulents. She grew them in mini pots and they didn't take up much space. Think they would be perfect for places with limited areas, flats and apartment perhaps. Just make sure they get enough sunlight since succulents love light and need at least six hours of sun per day, depending on the type. Be careful not to scorch the new ones with direct sunlight though; provide a shade and expose them gradually to full sun exposure. You'll be rewarded!
