The neighbour next door grew this initially by the roadside outside her house. Very soon, the lîttle stretch of land which used to be green with grasses and weeds became a bloody red; and one perhaps should be forgiven for mistaking it to be a carpet of red weed. When she gave me a big portion of it later, telling me that it could be used to prepare a herbal drink, I was a bit surprised. 红田乌 Hóng tián wū makes a tasty herbal drink when boiled with red brown sugar. It is said that it has the capability to lower cholesterol. Now, I just grow some of the herbs in little pots to add colour to the garden.
