Strange; I haven't thought of cicadas as insects but they are; and big ones at that! Cicadas have very prominent compound eyes. They have antennae, membranous wings and I bet if you were to scrutinize, you'd find that they; like all insects, have jointed legs and their bodies are divided into three parts; the head, thorax and abdomen. Besides being big, cicadas I suppose also differ from some other insects by being exceptionally loud. In Japan, it is said they are associated with the summer season. Unless the first songs of the cicadas are heard, summer hasn't officially begun. There is a cicada making an awful loud noise in the porch. My brother says that signals the approaching Chinese New Year. That's celebrating spring.
