Portulaca Grandiflora Hybrid, the one everyone called Japanese rose isn't quite the Japanese rose that grows on beaches and sand dunes in eastern Asia; in China, Japan or Korea. Rosa rugosa shares the same name as Portulaca Grandiflora; both are called Japanese rose but the latter, so common in Malaysia is a prettier sight with their delicate petals and vibrant colours. Portulaca Grandiflora thrives in the sunlight and presents quite a sight when the flowers open up in the early morning and afternoon. And this then is something that I don't like about these beauties. You don't get to see their blooms as night approaches. The flowers will close unceremoniously at the slightest sight of darkness; so here, catch a moment of their glory:
