It's Sakura season in Malaysia. A few posts appeared in social media lately of the rosy trumpet trees or pink poui otherwise known scientifically as Tabebuia pentaphylla blooming profusely in some parts of Penang and Malacca. Some hype the event as Sakura season though the rosy trumpet trees aren't Sakura trees; but both do share a common character of being big trees bearing an abundance of pink or white flowers. I remember the first time seeing these trees blooming profusely in Northern Thailand while on the way to Sukhotai and wondering why they weren't planted at home on an acre of land or so; especially so that the public could go cherry blossom viewing during the dry seasons. It was many years later that I notice that these trees were available locally and this year, the ones at the local Aeon Mall were blooming like those in Penang and Malacca; mmm...maybe less profusely, but still eye-catching...!
Here's Sakura season in Malacca!
