Endangered Arowana

Once I heard there were Arowanas in the river in Pondok Tanjung, a nearby hamlet. That was before  the freshwater bony fish became a status symbol. Some Chinese think the fish is a bringer of good luck; and rich enthusiasts are willing to part with a lot of money for it. There is a report that an albino arowana has even been sold for a whopping $300,000. Besides Asia, arowanas can be found in South America, Australia and Africa. Sadly, the Asian arowana is an endangered species.
