The Amarillis at Home

The bulbous plant Amaryllis bears big, eye-catching flowers which could be rather fragrant. Reportedly, the plant has been introduced to Europe in the 1700s from its native Africa but that Amaryllis belladonna was different from the usual hybrids grown as houseplants. The Amaryllis at home, the Red Pearl' Amaryllis just surprises with its red regal blooms. The flowers are perhaps a bit heavy and a bamboo stake has been used to support it and prevent it from toppling. Amaryllis supposedly will bloom in six to eight weeks after planting but the one at home hasn't been blooming for years. I suppose it's easier to pot it than make it bloom.
