At home we call the fruits ah mo ka na and I thought everyone else call them ambera which is about right; just that ambera is spelled umbra. The fruits can be pickled but I suppose it's more popular to make juices out of them; one could easily order them with a sour plum added in eating shops. Umbra grows very well in Malaysia. I remember its tree can grow very tall but dwarf umbra trees which can bear plenty of fruits are available for a long time now. A colleague has such a tree and she would sometimes treat us to some of her homemade pickled umbra or gift us with some of the raw fruits. Some people like the fruits raw and eat them after removing their skin and dabbing them with salt.
