One Sunday, How and I were out strolling in the Lake Gardens when in the lotus pond, we heard some sloshing noises. Immediately we spotted a creature with a long neck, powerful tail and claws, and well-developed limbs which reminded of a prehistoric dinosaur. It was a large lizard, the monitor lizard of the genus Varanus very common in this part of the world. In fact, there was one living in some hidden spot near the garden by the drain back home which made its appearance occasionally. Monitor lizards are said to have originated in Asia at least 65 million years ago. And after so long, they still attract attention!
Now, can you spot the monitor lizard?
