Pineapple as a popular food; I suppose the whole world knows. In a hot tropical country, it's just heaven to sink your teeth into a slice of ripe, juicy pineapple in the hot afternoon when the sun is scorching. One can have a pineapple raw or use it to cook a dish. All over the world, the fruit is used as an ingredient to prepare traditional food; hamonado, afritada, kaeng som pla, Hawaiian haystack; not forgetting the nyonya acar. During the month long MCO, when there was no pineapple in the market, my niece managed to get a friend to send some from the farm. Pineapple is optional in making nyonya acar, I suppose; but its presence makes the dish sweeter.
