Lamenting over a Plant

Lidah mak mertua, that's what the Malay call Dracaena trifasciata, a species of flowering plant in the family Asparagaceae which is native to tropical West Africa. I suppose other people do call the plant, mother-in-law's tongue too; and perhaps, the plant gets its name from the stiff leaves of the plant which grows vertically from a basal rosette which somehow, reminds of some mother-in-laws who could have terrible tongues, long and sharp just like the leaves of the Dracaena trifasciata. Nevertheless, when the plant blooms, which is not often, the long flower stalk with white, creamy buds literally open up, transform into little lillies, which bring joy to a tired heart...
