Movie Talk: Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker.

Christmas was spent watching the J. J. Abrams directed American space epic, Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker. Reviews from critics supposedly were mixed; some praised the cast performances and visual effects while others criticized the pacing and departures from the themes and plot; whatever that means; the frustrating lack of imagination, the storytelling, writing which features so many characters, locations and story dynamics that it could be confusing etc, etc. I suppose The Rise of Skywalker which follows Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron as they lead the Resistance's final stand against Kylo Ren and the First Order takes off from the last installment of the star wars saga, The Last Jedi. I found the movie rather entertaining, not confusing at all ; and in fact take delights in the appearances of old characters, most notably Princess Leia played by the late Carrie Fisher who had passed away in 2016. Unused footage from previous films fits in nicely; and one couldn't help marvelling at the creativity of the film crew. Harrison Ford's character, Hans Solo makes a cameo; a surprise to me; and in fact there are more surprises like the loss of C-3PO's memory which one would only expect of in humans and the unexpected return of the dead galactic emperor, Palpatine and his relationship with Rey. Didn't see the much hyped lesbian kiss; probably the scene must have been snipped off by the censors like it happened in Singapore; but then, who cares. It is not the lesbian kiss that audiences are interested in. May the force be with you!
