Love Lokan

Clams aren't oysters or mussels. While oysters and mussels live attached to a substrate like rocks or wood, clams don't. They live partially burried in the sand of the ocean floor. There are many types of clams. I remember one, the bi-valved lokan which is Malay for Polymesoda expansa. These clams, which are rather large, the size of an adult's palm sometimes; live mostly in the mud by the sea coast. In the outskirts of Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, once I had had lokan cooked over a strong fire and served with limau kasturi;  that's Malay for the citrus, Calamondin or scientifically known as Citrofortunella microcarpa. Clams, by the way, don't have fins and scales like fish and are therefore, considered non-kosher, not halal in Judaism. Never mind that they taste great when cooked under a strong fire and served with a citrus fruit. Love them even when their flesh had shriveled!
