In the sparsely populated Cape Tribulation of northern Queensland, Australia, one probably would find a signpost there rather out of the world. One would probably be reminded of weird aliens with tentacles attacking the world in a Hollywood blockbuster but then, the signpost actually warns swimmers of box jellyfish (Chironex fleckeri) which is touted as the most venomous animals in the world. Once its tentacle
adheres to the skin, the box jellyfish will pumps nematocysts with venom
into it, bringing about a stinging, agonizing pain. In serious cases, death may occur as a result of cardiovascular collapse.Take heart though that domestic vinegars can disable the nematocysts if they had not yet been discharged into the bloodstream.
Don't be boxed by Box Jellyfish...
