Being able to escape death,there is this myth that a cat has seven or nine lives.The saying that a cat has nine lives is however, also said to have its origins in witchcraft. A 1584 book 'Beware the Cat' by English author William Baldwin contained the phrase 'It is permitted for a witch to take her cat's body nine times'.
