It's hard to imagine that a plant can live in such a cold place and at such a high attitude but in Northwest China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, there is the snow lotus. It is the only herbaceous plant that live above 3,500 meters. The bad news is the plant like the panda, is an endangered species. Thanks to global warming and its high demand from pharmacy and health products industries, the snow lotus is predicted to become extinct in about 20 years. The snow lotus is a prized item in traditional Chinese medicine. It supposedly has anti-oxidative functions, neuroprotective effects and is anti-cancer and anti-obesity too.
