A friend gave me my first Kaempferia Elegans or cekur batik. The plant bears beautiful purple flowers and its leaves with rows of silver spots across them are rather attractive and make the plant great for landscaping purposes. My first cekur batik didn't grow well though and it was only later that I learned that it loves shades. Cekur batik is a type of ginger and I suppose, some of the original gingers survived the bright light the plant was exposed to.
