Movie Talk: Murder in Peyton Place

Thuan Hee sent a link to a 1977 TV movie, Murder in Peyton Place. Murder has always been a great subject for a movie and it would especially be thrilling to have it in Peyton Place, not that there isn't any in the original black and white series which stars Ryan O' Neal and Mia Farrow; but then this movie is a spin off from the highly popular series of the 60s which is based on Grace Metalious's bestseller and most certainly was highly anticipated. The movie however was a let down to many; critics even said the movie is the worst of the Peyton Place's series of movies. Probably, fans could not accept the fact that the murder victims are Rodney and Allison, Ryan's and Mia's much loved characters. Ryan doesn't even appear in the movie and Mia appears in black and white, in a flashback scene taken from the original TV series. Dorothy Malone, Tim O' Connor, Ed Nelson and Christopher Connelly are about the original stars. Babra Parkin's character, Betty Anderson is played by Janet Margolin who bears an uncanny resemblance; and yes, one is bound to miss Lee Grant who plays nasty Stella Chernak originally. Stella Stevens is a poor replacement.
