Cameron Trip: A Rare Species

Mardi, the agrotechnology park in Cameron Highlands, I've been there a few times. Once, I remember the entrance ticket was rather exorbitant but there was not much to be seen saved for a few  apple trees or grape trees and some green vegetables or flowers like roses or everlasting flowers which had seen better days; but then that was years ago, probably in the early 2000. The park has improved since then and today, there are six main areas for you to explore; the English Garden, Herb Garden, Orchid Garden, Rose Garden, research centre and an information centre where tourists can also buy souvenirs. In my recent trip there, I only have eyes for the blue-green, claw-shaped hanging inflorescence, the jade vine Strongylodon macrobotrys, a supposedly rare leguminous perennial native to the Philippines where it's known as Tayabak. The plant which is said to be threatened by deforestation is pollinated by birds and bat. Imagine a bat hanging upside down to drink its nectar!

Now, which is the Tayabak?
