Pitcher plants are carnivorous plants. They have prey-trapping mechanism features, a deep cavity filled with liquid known as a pitfall trap. Insects such as flies are attracted to the cavity by visual lures such as anthocyanin pigments, and nectar. The sides of the pitcher are slippery and may be grooved. This ensures that the insects cannot climb out. Phytotelmata the liquid contained within the pitcher traps drown the insect, and the body of the insect is gradually dissolved. Some plants are pretty violent, aren't they. Thank goodness, I am not the pitcher plant. I am an orchid!
