We are best of friends!

We are best of friends!

There is an old saying that says dogs are man's best friend. Perhaps, you have heard of Lassie, the fictional collie dog character created by Eric Knight in a short story which expanded into a novel called Lassie Come Home in 1940 and later made into a movie by MGM in 1943. The movie also called Lassie Come Home starred a talented dog named Pal and a very young Roddy McDowell and Elizabeth Taylor. Maybe, you'd have heard of the Japanese story Chu-ken Hachiko or Faithful dog Hachiko, too. In Japan, there is actually a fluffy dog prized for its fierce loyalty called the Akita that hails from the Akita region of Japan, a perfecture in the north of the island. The dog was first mentioned in Japanese literature around A.D. 712, and is depicted on much older pottery excavated in that country. So much for fiction and facts!

It would be interesting to know when the man painted dogs for the first time...
